3 Steps to Install a Gas Heater

1. Preparation

Where do I want to place my heater? This is the first question you should ask yourself. Check if the room where you want to install the appliance is prepared for the gas supply. In case there is not, ask a plumber to do it.

Note: It is important to consider that the room where the gas heater is to be installed is ventilated.

2. Install the gas supply

For this step you must make sure that the control keys are installed.

If not, check the instruction manual of the device to know the measurements and choose the connector. Based on the connector you can now choose your control key.

Keep in mind that to choose a gas connector you should also check the distance you will need to move the heater inside the room (Check the article How to choose a Flexible Gas Connector).

To install the stop valve:

  • Before you start, make sure the gas supply is closed
  • Check that the threads of the gas pipe (which is in the room where you wish to install) are clean
  • Attach sealing tape, stretching it 3 to 5 turns around the thread of the pipe.

*Tip: when putting the sealing tape, do it clockwise, because it will prevent it from being released.

  • Install the stop valve
*Tip: to avoid tearing, screw first counterclockwise, until you hear or feel it blunt; then screw in the clockwise and tighten with mechanical wrench. This will not damage the thread of the gas supply.

Lastly, check that there are no leaks between the thread and the stop valve:

  • Open the gas supply
  • Apply in the connection (between the thread and the stop valve) water with soap.

If bubbles come out, there is leakage and you should repeat the installation from the beginning.

3. Connect

Once you have done steps 1 and 2, install the flexible connector to the appliance and to the stop valve making sure that there are no kinks that prevent the passage of gas. Do not forget that for this installation, you must close the gas control key.

To verify that this installation has been done correctly, open the stop valve and apply soap and water to both connections (appliance-connector and control-connector). If there is a leak, check that the connections are tight.

Remember to always install products that are certified under official standards, as they will give you security in your gas installations.
